Response on the letter regarding the Environmental Conservation in SaeManGeum.
- Date de création2023-06-07
In preparation for the 25th World Scout Jamboree taking place in August 2023 in SaeManGeum, Republic of Korea,
we have worked to implement a variety of positive environmental conservation and sustainable practices as part of the planning and delivery of the event.
The Government of Korea prioritizes the protection of our natural resources and is dedicated to minimizing the environmental impact of development projects such as the Jamboree. Throughout the planning and execution of the SaeManGeum project over the past decade, the following sustainability efforts have been implemented:
1. Environmental Impact Assessment: A thorough environmental impact assessment was conducted before the project commenced, assessing the potential effects on ecosystems, wildlife, and surrounding areas. This assessment guided the decision-making process to minimize adverse impacts.
2. Sustainable Development Practices: We have integrated sustainable development practices into the project, including eco-friendly construction methods, energy-efficient technologies, and waste management systems. These initiatives aim to reduce the carbon footprint and ensure long-term environmental sustainability.
3. Biodiversity Preservation: Measures have been implemented to protect and preserve the local biodiversity. We have worked closely with environmental experts to identify sensitive areas and establish conservation zones to safeguard native flora and fauna.
We recognize the importance of returning the site to local communities and ensuring their well-being. The Government of Korea has developed a comprehensive plan for the restoration of SaeManGeum, which includes:
Community Engagement: We believe in open dialogue and collaboration with local communities. We have actively engaged community leaders, stakeholders, and residents throughout the development process to address their concerns, gather feedback, and incorporate their suggestions into the restoration plan.
Sustainable Land Use: The restored site will be utilized in a sustainable manner that aligns with the needs and aspirations of the local communities.
Economic Opportunities: Our plan includes the creation of job opportunities and economic development initiatives to empower local people and communities. We aim to foster entrepreneurship, encourage small businesses, and attract investments that will contribute to the economic growth of the region.
The Government of Korea reiterates its commitment to environmental protection, community integration, and sustainable development. We emphasize that this development project in SaeManGeum has been led by the Government, not spearheaded by the Scouts, and has taken extensive measures to mitigate environmental impacts of the event. Furthermore, we are dedicated to restoring the site and ensuring it becomes a valuable asset for local people and communities, providing economic opportunities and promoting a sustainable future.
We firmly believe that this global gathering of Scouts will both educate thousands of young individuals on environmental protection, and also empower them to make a positive change in their local communities.
Social Impact of Educating Thousands of Scouts on Environmental Protection: The 25th World Scout Jamboree serves as a remarkable platform to educate and inspire thousands of Scouts from around the world about the importance of environmental protection. Through interactive workshops, educational programmes, and immersive experiences, Scouts will develop a deep understanding of environmental challenges and gain the necessary tools to become stewards of our planet. This knowledge will undoubtedly lead to the implementation of sustainable practices and the promotion of environmental awareness in their respective communities.
Social Impact on Local Communities: Upon returning from the 25th World Scout Jamboree, thousands of Scouts will carry the lessons learned and their newfound passion for environmental protection back to their local communities. These young change-makers will actively engage in initiatives that promote sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship. By taking action at a grassroots level, they will inspire others and create a ripple effect of positive change throughout their communities, ultimately fostering a global network of environmentally-conscious individuals.
Local Actions with a Global Impact: The collective efforts of hundreds of local actions taken by Scouts will have a profound global impact. From tree-planting campaigns and community clean-ups to sustainable resource management projects, these actions will contribute to the larger goal of preserving our planet. By recognizing that environmental challenges require collaboration and collective action, the 25th World Scout Jamboree aims to create a lasting legacy of positive environmental change across borders and cultures.
The Host remains steadfast in its dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable practices. We firmly believe that the 25th World Scout Jamboree will serve as a transformative experience for Scouts worldwide, empowering them to become agents of change in their communities. By fostering environmental education, promoting global cooperation, and embracing eco-friendly practices, we are confident that this event will make a substantial positive impact on our planet.
